Easy Chord Songs

Leaving on a Jet Plane is an easy song to start with. The song is in 4/4 time and uses the standard strum D Du uD, or 1 2& & 4, use down strums on the numbers and up strums on the &'s. Skip the strings where there is no number or &. Keep your hand moving Down, Up, Down, Up and just miss the strings where you don't want to play. Saying the strum out load helps keep track of where you are and the timing for this strum.
After the intro the chord progression G C G C G C D7 D7 repeats over and over until the song ends, one full bar (4 beats) for each chord.
Practice the chord changes one at a time to get smooth changing chords G to C, C to G, C to D7 and D7 to G.

Brown Eyed Girl is another easy 4/4 song using the same rhythm pattern D Du uD. Each chord gets 4 beats (one full strumming pattern). Practice G C, C G, G D, D G, D C, C D, G Em, and Em C chord changes. Go slow with steady strumming, keep your strumming hand moving Down-Up, Down-Up and say the strum out loud (Down, Down up,     up Down) if you are getting lost with the strum.
