Eighth Notes

An eighth note is half the time or length of a quarter note. So far we have been using Whole, Half and Quarter notes. This is where playing the guitar starts to take shape, plucking the string(s) starts to feel more like rhythm.

When playing eighth notes generally use a down - up - down - up picking motion.
The timing (4/4) broken into eighth notes is spoken as 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 &
